Ways to Celebrate Dad on Father’s Day

(NDABCREATIVITY)

As the weather gets warmer, with it comes opportunities for cookouts, barbecues, celebrations and more. It’s the perfect time to make memories and celebrate family, friends and loved ones.

Father’s Day is a special day each June for families to celebrate Dad—and all the male role models in their lives, thanking them for all the good times, memories, advice, stories and for just being there when they needed them.

Here are some ways to show our father figures how much we care about them on June 16:

Making root beer floats and soda floats

Kids can help choose the ice cream and soda flavors to help make soda floats with their dads.

Here are a few combinations to try or use for inspiration:

(Elle Arden)
  • Root beer float: Root beer soda + vanilla ice cream
  • Strawberry float: Strawberry soda + strawberry or vanilla ice cream
  • Orange float: Orange soda + vanilla ice cream
  • Grape float: Grape soda + vanilla ice cream
  • Cherry float: Cherry soda + cherry or vanilla ice cream
  • Pineapple float: Pineapple soda + pineapple or vanilla ice cream
  • Cola float: Cola soda + chocolate or vanilla ice cream

Making homemade crafts

Crafts are a fun way to show someone how much you care. Try making crafts such as cards, aprons, photo albums, friendship/charm bracelets, magnets, etc. with Dad at home.

Making or helping with a meal

Dads get hungry, too! Making and/or helping with a meal is a nice way to make Dad feel special.

Sweet treats for Dad

What better way to feed Dad’s sweet tooth than to make a sweet treat/dessert for him? Try your hand at making treats such as cookies, cakes, pound cakes or pies.

Hanging out/spending time together

Simply hanging out and spending time with Dad is one way to make Dad feel special.

Video games

If your dad enjoys video games, this idea is a fun one. Set aside some time to play video games with Dad, and learn what games he enjoyed from childhood!

Exercise/sport activities

Getting exercise and playing sports, or doing sporty activities, is a great way to spend time with Dad and/or male role models. Try activities such as tai chi, yoga, basketball, football, walking, running, golf, bowling, swimming and more.

Gifts for Dad

There’s all sorts of gifts that you can get for Dad and/or your male role models. Two possible gift ideas are watches and gift cards for places they love, such as their favorite restaurant/store, DoorDash, Grubhub and grocery stores. Places such as department stores and Bath and Body Works have cologne, lotion and more for men as well.

Phone call/Call Dad

Sometimes, life gets busy, and we don’t always have the time to see our loved ones as much as we would like. Why not set aside a time to call, Facetime or Zoom with Dad?

DIY bouquet

There’s all sorts of bouquet ideas out there, both ones you can buy and ones you can create as gifts. Some non-traditional ideas for bouquets are: chicken nugget bouquet, meat bouquet, candy bouquet, gift card bouquet and donut bouquet. Search online and/or in-store for other ideas and inspiration!

Shirts & hats

Shirts and hats are a cool gift idea for Dad. You can buy stylish shirts and hats in-store and online. Places such as Amazon, Custom Ink, Walmart and Walgreens have options where you can customize shirts and hats with designs, photos and special messages. Another idea is buying iron-on and/or sew-on patches to put on the shirts and hats as well.
