The Maryland State Fair has almost come to a close for the 2026 season, but there’s one more day to enjoy it, so to celebrate, we rounded up five of our favorite new and returning foodie finds. From the weird and wonderful to just plain delicious, look for these inventive fair treats on your visit today or when the fair returns next summer. Eat responsibly!
Crabzilla Fries
Shugar Shack Soul Food, a Black-owned food truck with Keenya Cain Wiggins “Chef Shug” and her daughter, Jewel Wiggins at the helm, won Best New Savory Food Item in The MALLET New Fair Food Competition for its Crabzilla Fries, a heaping pile of Maryland goodness including a creamy mix of lump crab meat and garlic truffle butter on bed of fries. They’re seasoned with Parmesan, a crab cake crumble for a bit of texture and local favorite Old Bay to bring out even more seafood flavor. Grab a few forks, and it’s an easy snack to share with the whole family.
The Crazy Dr. Pickle
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, as the tongue twister goes – we just didn’t know the pepper in question would be a Dr. Pepper! The “Crazy Dr. Pickle” comes in two options: a frozen Icee Dr. Pepper mixed with a bit of pickle juice and garnished with a pickle spear, or the non-frozen version, with a pickle spear dropped straight into your drink! It may be out there, but if you have a “when in Rome” mentality, the pickle-Pepper pairing is not half bad.
Deep Fried PB&J, Reese’s and More
State and county fairs have a reputation for frying almost anything, and the Maryland State Fair does not disappoint. Located across from the Maryland Foods Pavilion is a booth with eight different kinds of fried candies and treats. Beyond fried Oreos – a popular fair staple – there are also fried Snickers, Milky Way, Reese’s (our personal favorite), Twinkies, cookie dough, s’mores and even a PB&J! While you can no longer get a sampler of all of them, most single orders come with several bites, making them convenient to share. Or, choose multiple treats for your crew and mix and match. Besides fried sweets, this vendor also has funnel cake, frozen cheesecake and, if you’re looking for a healthier option, frozen bananas.
Biscoff Cookie Butter Cheesecake
In addition to fried candy, we had to try a new offering from the fried sweets booth this year. The Biscoff Cookie Butter Cheesecake is a frozen slice of cheesecake on a stick, dipped in liquid cookie butter and sprinkled with Biscoff cookie butter crumbles. The cool cheesecake is refreshing after the decadent sweet bites of the cookie butter exterior. Once the outer coating has been gobbled up, it tastes like a thick cream cheese -flavored ice cream. It’s a good treat to satisfy your sweet tooth with a unique enough flavor to feel like a special occasion.
The Donut Burger
If you like a blend of savory and sweet, you may gravitate towards this burger, whose buns are Krispy Kreme doughnuts! Once you see it, you can’t miss the sign for the “Donut Burger,” the main attraction at the Krispy Kreme stand. In true fair fashion, it’s go big or go home! This bacon cheeseburger has two whole glazed doughnuts as its top and bottom buns, making for a messy meal. (You may want to sit down for this one, and bring some napkins.) But if you come to the fair with a bit of whimsy and an adventurous palette, it’s a must-try.
