World Giraffe Day is June 21 and what better day is there to honor the tallest animal in the world than on the longest day of the year? To celebrate, The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore will be hosting “Wild About Giraffes,” a series of free virtual giraffe-themed activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At the “Wild About Giraffes” event, kids can watch Caesar the giraffe get a pedicure, make their own ossicone headband and “giraffe spit,” and track giraffes through the Zooniverse Wildwatch Kenya Project.

Then, kids can tune in to the zoo’s social media pages throughout the day for a Q&A with the zoo’s giraffe keepers.

As an added bonus, the zoo is launching a brand new in-person giraffe training experience. Kids ages 5 and older will have the chance to go on a guided experience with a Zoo Educator and watch a keeper train a member of the herd. Tickets are $39 (zoo members) and $49 (nonmembers) for a 30-minute session and can be purchased on the zoo’s website.

World Giraffe Day was originally created by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to celebrate the planet’s long-necked friends and raise awareness about the difficulties they face in the wild.
