Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Sept. 11 community remembrance marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
Still marked as the deadliest terrorist attacks in United States history, the national tragedy affected many lives, and its remembrance allows families not only to honor the fallen but to pay tribute to the first responders who saved many lives that day.
The Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department — which covers a 40-square-mile area in southwest Baltimore County and is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization — welcomes the community to walk together down East Drive to the firehouse to take part in the 343 Flag Honor Walk and candlelight vigil. The walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of East Drive and Sulphur Spring Road.
It will honor the 343 firefighters of the Fire Department of the City of New York who responded to the attacks and the collapse of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and be followed by a 25th anniversary remembrance ceremony, which will include remarks from people who lost family members, friends and colleagues during the attacks.
This free community event will honor victims, first responders and families affected by 9/11 and the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in New York City, Arlington, Virginia, and Pennsylvania that day.
