Construction will begin this month on a new Farm & Garden building at the Maryland State Fair—replacing the existing 1962 structure with a more versatile 10,000 square-foot building.
In about six months, visitors to the fairgrounds will have access to the new building, which includes a lobby, event hall, event storage, prep areas, offices and restrooms, while continuing to display exhibits from thousands of Maryland farmers and gardeners, according to a news release.
Though the Maryland State Fair & Agricultural Society, Inc. project won’t be done by this summer’s fair, exhibits previously held in the Farm and Garden building will be temporarily rehoused, and once the new space is ready, it will also be a year-round rental venue for meetings, parties, conferences and more.
“The energy efficient HVAC system alone will be appreciated by fairgoers and exhibitors alike and will ensure a longer life for fruit, vegetables, flowers and other exhibits at the Maryland State Fair,” says Maryland State Fair General Manager Andrew “Andy” Cashman in the news release.
