Small Classes, Expert Teachers, Since 2000
Baltimore Lab School has served bright, motivated students in grades 1–12 with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences for more than 25 years. Classes average six students, and every teacher is certified in special education. Instruction is grounded in structured literacy and delivered by faculty trained specifically in how these students process language. Reading, Speech, OT and Counseling — Built In
Intensive reading support, speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling are all provided in-house, during school hours. Families aren’t assembling a patchwork of outside providers after dismissal or driving across town for evening appointments or spending a year advocating for services that were promised and never scheduled. The support is part of the daily fabric, not an add-on.
The Arts: A Proven Path for Students Who Learn Differently
Decades of research show that students with learning differences retain more when material reaches them through multiple channels. Baltimore Lab was founded on that principle. Arts faculty work alongside classroom teachers so that movement, music, drama, and visual art reinforce key concepts inside academic subjects — turning a lesson into something students do rather than only hear. For many children, that’s the point where material finally sticks.
Baltimore Lab also teaches the arts in their own right, with visual and performing arts courses and student productions throughout the year. In a studio or on a stage, students take creative risks, collaborate with classmates, and maybe discover a new talent— and that confidence follows them into every other subject.

Pointed Toward College and Career From the Start
Preparing students for what comes next isn’t something Baltimore Lab saves for senior year. Executive function coaching — planning ahead, getting organized, following through — begins in the lower school and is woven into instruction. Middle schoolers stretch their problem-solving in Innovators Workshops on Wednesdays. By high school it takes concrete shape: a Director of College and Career Counseling guides course selection, college essays, and PSAT/SAT/ACT preparation, and leads interview role-play that doubles as self-advocacy practice. Students take “adulting” classes, complete senior-year internships, and travel on overnight trips built around history and college exploration.
The outcome: 85% of Baltimore Lab students go on to college — well above the average for students with learning disabilities. Others step straight into careers, often in a field a senior-year internship opened up for them.
