Local families have a new destination for learning, community and fun. The Catonsville Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library (BCPL) has officially reopened—with new features for families.
BCPL recently celebrated the grand reopening of the Catonsville Branch with a ribbon cutting, tours and appearances by Maryland State Delegates and county officials.
The renovated library now has new dedicated teen and children’s spaces, recording studios, a remodeled public meeting room and enhanced facilities.

While recording studios and mixing booths might not fit with the traditional idea most people have of a library, the features exhibit the new role of modern libraries as community hubs and centers for opportunity.
According to a Baltimore County Public Library news release, the hope is that these recording and mixing facilities will enable community members to create music or podcasts and work on projects for school—a reflection of BCPL’s commitment to equal access and intellectual freedom.

The $7 million renovation also brought the 1963 building’s facilities to the 21st century with facility improvements, such as upgrades to the sprinkler, electrical and sewage systems, as well as windows, doors and HVAC.
