When it comes to going out to eat with the family, not much beats the basic burger. Baltimore’s Child asked local parents about their go-to spots in the region. National chains Five Guys and Shake Shack made the recommendation list for allergy accommodations. Below here are some local spots to grab the best burgers.
Family Friendly Fun | The Woodstock Inn, Woodstock
The burgers at the Woodstock Inn are worth the drive! The beef is locally sourced from Braglio Farms, a local family farm. The Woodstock Inn may look a bit rustic outside, but this is very welcoming to families, with a large outdoor area where children can play, cornhole setups and grownups to get an adult beverage. This is adjacent to Patapsco State Park, so many people hike or even ride their horse to stop for lunch. — Eileen Delaney, Woodstock
Terrific To-Go | Wayback Burger, Bel Air and Parkville
Wayback Burger makes a great classic burger without all the frills at a decent price. They also have weekly specials if you sign up for their emails. They make a great takeout spot for their quick service and quality tasty food. I also highly recommend their cheese curds — Denise Seifert, Parkville

Vegetarian Variety | Kooper’s North, Timonium
I love the black bean burger at Kooper’s North. [I’m] constantly striving to practice a more flexitarian lifestyle, [and] it’s amazing to have meatless option at a restaurant the whole family enjoys. The texture is perfect, the toppings tasty and the atmosphere [is] cozy and welcoming. — JoAnna Bower, city or town
Easy Eats | Sally O’s, Baltimore City
When living in Canton, [my husband and I] would walk over to Sally O’s almost weekly. Their late-night menu consisted of a smash burger, fried chicken sandwich and wings. Like clockwork, we’d order all three. The vibe there is great, and it’s a woman-owned business, which you can totally feel … when you walk into the groovy ambience. — Sofia Scherer, Cockeysville
Katie Schubert likes her burgers rare (mooing, please) with caramelized onions, dill pickle rounds, mayonnaise and a large size of fries.
