The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore holds its biggest fundraiser of the year annually on Memorial Day weekend. From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, kids can enjoy food from local vendors, test their mettle in a watermelon-eating contest and watch fun animal activities like an elephant watermelon smash while parents try beer, wine, cider and more from local breweries.

Memorial Day Mass: Mozart’s Mass in D Major | Roland Park
At this free Memorial Day concert at St. David’s Episcopal Church, the Choir of St. David’s performs Mozart’s Mass in D Major from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Families can stop by in person or watch on Facebook or YouTube.

SOWEBO Arts and Music Festival | Historic Hollins Market
This annual festival in Southwest Baltimore is a Memorial Day tradition, kicking off the summer festival season in Baltimore. The event runs from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and features a vendor fair, live music and plenty of children’s activities, like hat making and a puppet parade.

Memorial Day at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens | Timonium
One of the most notable Memorial Day events in the Baltimore area, honoring the Maryland soldiers and veterans buried in the gardens’ Field of Honor. The ceremony is a thoughtful opportunity to reflect on the contributions of Marylanders to the military and offers children an opportunity to learn about the meaning of the holiday.

Westminster Memorial Day Remembrance Parade and Observance Ceremony
Carroll Post 31, the Westminster-based chapter of the American Legion, holds a Memorial Day parade every year, which remains one of the longest-running annual Memorial Day parades in the country. At the parade’s 10 a.m. kickoff, representatives from community organizations, local veterans and more will be marching to celebrate the holiday and honor fallen soldiers.
