The annual Robert I. Damie Race for Our Kids at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore this year raised $216,000—its second consecutive year of raising more than $200,000.
Prior to the race, more than 630 participants had pre-registered—raising more than $206,000.
A unique event in Baltimore organized by LifeBridge Health, the race consists mostly of patients and families who have received care by the LifeBridge Health Program.
By running 5K and 10K road races—or a 1-mile family walk—they connect with their caregivers, come together to craft creative team names and honor fellow patients. This year, a post-event celebration included multiple activities for kids, face painting and breakfast.
From the enthusiastic marathoner to the novice runner, the event had an opportunity for everyone to participate and give back. This can be important for those receiving care to feel like they can also contribute.
All race proceeds support the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai, Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, Save-A-Limb Fund, Center for Hope and The Family Tree.
