Catonsville is an unincorporated community of just over 14 square miles, named for Richard Caton, whose father-in-law Charles Carroll was the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence. Its earliest formal settlement began in the late 1600s, and the area was known as Hunting Ridge into the 1800s. In 2002, the Maryland Legislature named Catonsville “Music City Maryland.” Frederick Road is home to iconic music stores like the family-owned Bill’s Music, and the Catonsville Arts & Entertainment District hosts the Music City Maryland Festival and Music City Bluegrass & Roots Festival.
