Do you feel a chill in the air? Have you noticed the first autumn leaves? Fall is finally here, and there are plenty of ways to get into the spirit of the season.
While most fall festivals are scattered throughout October and November, here’s one local festival you and your family can experience this month.
Taking the Lead’s “Hay Neighbors” Fall Festival will feature fall crafts, pumpkin painting, a bouncy house and more family-friendly excitement. The festival will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Timberbrook Farm. The farm is located at 21000 Slab Bridge Road, in Freeland, Maryland. Admission is free.
Taking the Lead is a nonprofit that helps children and adults meet physical and emotional therapy goals with hippotherapy (equine-assisted) sessions and therapeutic horseback riding. According to Taking the Lead, the organization commonly serves people with autism, anxiety, depression, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, PTSD and other mental and physical disabilities.
The festival will have a sensory room/stall available for anyone who might need it.
A food truck will be available, but families are more than welcome to bring their own picnic lunch, blanket and chairs and enjoy the farm’s atmosphere. The food truck, FlexiLicious Street Food, will offer burgers, vegan burgers, chicken tenders, French fries, handmade apple pie and more.
During the festival, Chelsea Whitaker, the organization’s founder and lead occupational therapist, will be carrying out hippotherapy demonstrations.
