National Farmers Market Week isn’t just a well-marketed tool to get you to go to your local farmers market — it’s an annual celebration recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture and a great way to get out in your community with the whole family.
This year, National Farmers Market Week runs from Aug. 2 to Aug. 8, and Create Baltimore partnered with the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Culture and Entertainment to celebrate. On Aug. 2, the Baltimore Farmers’ Market will commemorate the week with live performances, farm-to-table cooking demonstrations, restaurant pop-ups and more.
Farmers markets are a great way to get out into community and support local agriculture and small businesses.
“Farmers are the nucleus of the market, and we appreciate everything they do for the well-being, health and sustainability of Baltimoreans,” said Robyn Murphy, CEO of Create Baltimore, in a news release. “Every Sunday, the Baltimore Farmers’ Market demonstrates how food systems, entrepreneurship, tourism, arts and culture and placemaking intersect to strengthen our local economy. … For 49 years, the Baltimore Farmers’ Market has nourished our city not only through fresh food, but through community. As we celebrate National Farmers Market Week, we’re proud to honor one of Baltimore’s most enduring civic institutions as we look ahead to the Market’s 50th anniversary next year.”
