Maryland State Fair
It’s that time of year again: greasy (and very delicious) food, animal shows, rides, concerts and more at the Maryland State Fair! Happening through Sept. 5, this beloved annual event is a perfect way to close out August and welcome September. Tickets: $8 for adults, $3 for kids 6-11, $6 for seniors. Aug. 25-Sept. 5 at Timonium Fair Grounds.
Family Swim Movie Night: Zootopia
If you and your kids never got a chance to see “Zootopia” on the big screen, you’re in luck! Riverside Park is hosting a family showing of the film, complete with hot dogs, popcorn and snocones. Grab a blanket and get ready for the show. Tickets: $2. 7:30 p.m. at Riverside Park Pool.
SATURDAY
Maryland Renaissance Festival
Did you know jousting is Maryland’s state sport? Now you can show your state pride by watching it live at the Maryland Renaissance Fair, which starts this weekend. As a bonus, nosh on a giant turkey leg and grab a medieval craft or two. Tickets: $19-24 for adults, $8-10 for kids 7-15. Aug. 27-October 23 in Crownsville, M.D.
Pics in the Park—Avengers: Age of Ultron
Give your weekend a superhero punch up with the penultimate Pics in the Park showing of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” The action-packed movie is sure to delight superhero fans of all ages while enjoying the outdoors on a beautiful summer evening. Free. 8 p.m. at Center Plaza on Fayette Street.

Cosmos in the Park
It’s an outdoor movie-heavy weekend, but Hampden is mixing it up. Enjoy two episodes of the Carl Sagan classic miniseries “Cosmos” at Roosevelt Park. Especially perfect for any budding space enthusiasts in the family. Free. 8:30 p.m. at Roosevelt Park.
The Dog Days of Sumer JFX Block Party
No leaving Spot at home for this party! Our four-legged friends are the guests of honor at Birroteca’s Dog Days of Summer block party, with food, beverages (alcoholic and not), live music, pet treats, a doggie photo booth, cornhole and more. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the local SPCA. Free. 12-5 p.m. at Birroteca.
