Baltimore Snowball Stands To Visit This Summer

Picture this: You’re 10 years old. You’re heading home from the pool on a hot summer day in the middle of July and you pass a couple of people sitting at a table under a propped-up beach umbrella with a large cardboard sign that reads “Snowballs $2.”

Legend has it that Baltimoreans have been enjoying snowballs since the 1800s. Mothers would flavor ice shavings their children had begged for from the trucks passing through on their way to deliver ice to the south.

Snowballs are densely packed, thinly shaved ice with the texture of freshly fallen snow. Grab the classic egg custard or skylite flavors at any one of these local snowball stands.
