We found eight fun things to do this weekend. Many will get those kiddos outside and into the sunshine. Others are tasty good. Check out what we picked for Weekend Family Fun, Aug. 13-16.
Green Thumbs and Nature Lovers
“Be Outside: Nature for Everyone” is the first of two library-sponsored outdoor programs this weekend. Atiya Wells is the founder of Backyard Basecamp and she will discuss how you and your children can get into nature—no matter where you live. She also will share information about her urban farming project, Bliss Meadows. Other scientists and naturalists join Wells in a panel discussion about creating equitable access to nature. Baltimore County Public Library sponsors this Zoom program and registration closes one hour before its start. Friday at 6 p.m. bcpl.info
Then, on Saturday at noon, the Enoch Pratt Free Library hosts a container garden workshop with a Baltimore City master gardener. Learn how to match the right plant with the right pot and grow something gorgeous. We all need a little corner of green space. Find out how to register right here.

Every other Wednesday, they have posted a new Bingo card that kids can use to spot turtles, butterflies, aphids, roses and more. Moles and…a Squash Vine Borer? Join us in tracking the wildlife in our yards and neighborhoods this summer. There are eight different bingo cards to get kids excited about spotting the flora and fauna around their neighborhood. prattlibrary.org
Fruity Fun
Weber’s Farm is hosting a Drive-Thru Blackberry and Peach Festival again on Saturday and Sunday, and we’re there for it. Festival hours run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The drive-thru is like a McDonald’s, but just so much better. Follow the farm’s posted signs to place an order with a cashier, then continue through to the pickup and some doughnuts or a peach slush. weberscidermillfarm.com
Families also can head to the Carroll County Farmer’s Market on Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. to check out their peach celebration. Look for local peaches, peach sundaes, peach scones, peach cobblers, peach pies, peach cakes, and other food items. carrollcountyfarmersmarket.com
Staying in? Make these s’mores.
