What’s the hardest part about juggling parenthood and your career?
The hardest part is learning how to prioritize and getting comfortable with saying no sometimes. It is important to maintain a healthy work-life balance, or you will burn out.
What makes trying to balance both easier?
You know the saying “it takes a village”? Well, it’s true. Learn to ask for and accept help from friends and family when you cannot do it all on your own.
What do you love about being a parent?
I remember the activities and events that brought me joy as a child, and I love sharing those experiences with my children. I truly enjoy being a father and would not change it for the world.
What’s your biggest parenting fail?
My biggest parenting fail has been anytime I start into a 6-feet-of-snow story. “When I was your age ….” I have worked hard on not being so quick to offer advice. Sometimes children just need you to listen and understand that they are going through a tough time.
How has your family been handling the pandemic?
It has been challenging at times, especially with virtual learning, but we have handled it well overall. We have had more time to connect and enjoy more family meals together.
What’s the one thing you hope your children learn from you and your career?
I hope my children will see my humility, empathy and sincere desire to help others. As Zig Ziglar famously said, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
FAMILY MEAL: Hibachi Steak House—always delicious and entertaining
DESSERT: Ice Cream
BOOK TO READ TOGETHER: Our reading interests have diverged as the kids have gotten older, but we used to love anything by Dr. Seuss.
WAY TO SPEND A WEEKEND WITH YOUR CHILDREN: We love any activities we can do together, such as going on a hike, playing games or sometimes having a movie marathon.
VACATION SPOT: Sanibel Island in Florida. It is a very family-friendly spot. The beaches are world-renowned for their beautiful shells, and more than half of the island is made up of wildlife refuges.
