Families now have an expert in child, adolescent and family psychology in the Department for Family and Community Interventions at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Dr. Ernestine Briggs-King, Ph.D, was chosen from a nationwide search as vice president of the department. In her role, she will lead the department, which includes the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress and the Therapeutic Foster Care program, according to a news release.

She will also lead research, mentor staff and early career-stage learners and provide psychological care for patients and their family members.

Among several previous roles she held related to childhood traumatic stress, health and abuse, she was also former associate director of diversity, equity and inclusion at Duke University and has experience in improving access for underserved youth and adolescents.

“We are elated that Dr. Briggs-King, who is such a strong national voice on the topics of child and family well-being as well as mental health disparities and inclusion, will join our team as a leader, clinician and researcher,” notes Jacqueline Stone, Kennedy Krieger’s chief clinical officer, in the release.
