The Enoch Pratt Free Library has completed the renovation process of its Brooklyn Branch, and will reopen it during a special event scheduled for Monday, Jan. 12. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and Baltimore City Council District 10 Councilwoman Phylicia Porter will be in attendance at the ceremony, which will also feature plenty of fun, family-friendly activities.

The Brooklyn Branch of the library has been serving the Baltimore area for over a century, first opening in 1921 and being rebuilt in 1965. For many Baltimoreans, it’s an important hub of learning and community resources.

The library has been fully modernized with new furniture, paint, carpeting and a new HVAC system, with funding provided by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), administered by the Mayor’s Office of Recovery Programs.

The event will kick off with an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by activities for the rest of the day. These include a live jazz performance by the Gregory Thompkins Ensemble, a library scavenger hunt, a video game tournament and a DJ workshop hosted by Raise Nation. It will also feature the official relaunch of story times at the library, which will be attended by families from Judy Center Early Learning Hubs around the city.
