Spring is here, and with it a familiar holiday: Mother’s Day. It’s a special day to show your mother and mother figures how much you care for and appreciate them.

Here are some ways you can celebrate Mom this Mother’s Day:

Chocolate-Covered Fruits and Treats

What could be a better sweet treat than chocolate-covered fruit? Places such as Edible Arrangements and Sweet Cascades Chocolatier, with locations throughout Howard County, offer such gifts for every taste and budget.

Pat’s Porch in Catonsville has candy, treats, gifts and chocolate candy box creations for purchase.

You can also DIY chocolate-covered treats! The Maryland-based Old Line Plate blog (oldlineplate.com) has a variety of meal and dessert recipes with a story and history behind them.

Besides the classic strawberries, other fruits you can dip or drizzle with chocolate are pineapples, cherries, apples, orange slices and bananas, as well as other snacks such as pretzels, cookies, popcorn, potato chips and more.

DIY Spa Day

Help Mom relax with a DIY spa day at home. Bath & Body Works, Walmart, Target and Amazon, as well as local spots like Mount Royal Soaps and KSM Candle Co., both in Baltimore, offer a variety of supplies you can use to arrange a wonderful spa day. Here are some suggestions:

• Candles and/or battery-operated candles
• Shower gel/body wash
• Bubble bath
• Snacks
• Bath bombs and/or bath salts
• Audiobooks
• Streaming services (for music
and movies/TV shows)
• Robe
• Slippers
• Lotion
• Perfume/fragrance spray

Homemade Mother’s Day Card or Letter

Here’s a classic Mother’s Day idea: writing a letter and/or creating a Mother’s Day card. Take some time and write a meaningful letter or create a card (or both!) for your mom, thanking her for everything she’s done and sharing something special.

Look online for ideas and designs and get the supplies you need at craft stores like Pikesville’s Paper Source.

Breakfast in Bed

Make Mom feel like a queen by serving her breakfast in bed. You can serve her favorite breakfast on a tray alongside tea or coffee and a nice flower or two in a vase.

Doing Chores and Helpful Tasks

Doing chores and helpful tasks around the house is one way you can help Mom relax. Chores such as taking out the trash, washing dishes, taking care of the pets, doing laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning your room and helping to prep and/or cook meals can go a long way.

Spending Time Together

Simply spending time together with Mom can be one of the greatest gifts on Mother’s Day.

Here are some activities you might enjoy together:
• Yoga
• Bowling
• Gardening
• Walking/jogging
• Listening to music
• Reading
• Shopping
• Conversation

Going Out for Brunch, Lunch or Dinner

Help Mom feel special by taking her out for a meal! Take her to a nice restaurant, her favorite restaurant or even one that’s new in town, such as Brick Bistro Hampden in Baltimore. Be sure to check the restaurant’s hours and plan ahead if a reservation is needed.

Baking a Sweet Treat

Moms have a sweet tooth, too! Why not bake a sweet treat for Mom or make one with her? Cheesecakes, cookies, brownies and cakes are all fun sweet treats to make.

Ice Cream Sundae Bar

Have fun creating a DIY ice cream sundae bar. Gather your ice cream, toppings, bowls and utensils, and have each family member get creative.

Flowers and Balloons

Flowers and balloons can make your mom or mother figure smile. Why not make a stop at a florist or party planning store? Local florists such as Catonsville’s Blue Iris Flowers can help you design a bouquet.

Stores like Partistry Events in Columbia and Party Razzle in Woodlawn sell party supplies and festive balloons.

Movie Night

Watching a movie with great snacks and spending time with family is a fun way to help Mom relax and unwind after a long day. Gather some snacks, beverages, movies and/or your favorite streaming service to get ready for a fun movie night.

Here are some family-friendly choices:

• “Freaky Friday”
• Disney’s “The Aristocats”
• “Turning Red”
• Disney’s “101 Dalmatians” (1961)
• “The Sound of Music”
• “The Princess and the Frog”
