Baltimore’s Child won eight awards—four of them gold—at the 2025 Parenting Media Association Awards, which honors achievements in parenting journalism across the United States. The awards, judged by the University of Missouri School of Journalism and covering content published between July 2024 and June 2025, were announced at the PMA Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois, from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8.

Baltimore’s Child‘s “Inclusive Family” section, which highlights news and resources for parents of children with disabilities or who are neurodivergent, received two awards. The section won the gold award for “Special Section Within a Publication,” as well as a gold design award in the “Special Section” category.
“This is an authoritative and extremely readable special section that not only identifies resources for families whose children have special needs, but covers additional ground with stories that are personal, appropriate and rooted in solid medical information,” the PMA judges write of the “Inclusive Family” section. “What’s equally important [is that] the stories are written to appeal to all families who want to understand what makes children different.”
Other awards recognized individual articles. Staff writer Andrew Guckes received a silver award in the “Profile” category for his article “Dads in Politics,” where he interviewed Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and U.S. Representative Johnny Olszewski about the trials of balancing fatherhood with their political careers.
Freelance writer Heather M. Ross received two awards: a silver “News Feature” award for “Fresh Moves in the Science of Autism Screening” and a gold “General Feature Writing” award for “A Pathway to Success for Boys in Ballet.”
The magazine’s design department also earned several honors. Designer Lonna Koblick secured a gold award in “Use of Typography” for “How to Ace the Middle and High School Admissions Process” and a silver “Feature Layout” award for “Child Life Specialists.” Koblick’s designs can be viewed in full in our digital magazine archive.
Finally, the Baltimore’s Child art department earned the bronze award in “Overall Design,” with judges praising its choices of cover images and use of color.
Thank you to all of our readers for supporting Baltimore’s Child!
