6 Cheaper Ways for Parents to Get Out

Fitting in quality time with your friends or partner or sneaking in some time alone can be hard when you are a parent. Perhaps you can’t find a babysitter or you aren’t sure what to do to make sure the kids have a good time. With that in mind, we offer up the following alternatives to the traditional babysitter. From providing great opportunities for kids to blow off some steam to enriching their minds, these fun activities will allow both you and your child have a fun night out.

Kids’ Night Out

acac, Timonium

One Saturday each month, acac hosts a Kids Night Out where children can engage in free play, enjoy pizza and a movie, or swim in the indoor heated pool. Children must be 3 years or older, fully potty trained, and swimming is available for children ages 5 and older who pass the swim test. Free with acac family membership; $10 for members without a family membership; $15 nonmembers  

Parents’ Night Out 

Code Ninjas, Ellicott City

Sneak in some STEM fun to stimulate your child’s mind while you relax yours at Code Ninjas. Children ages 7-14 are treated to pizza, snacks and drinks while they learn or practice coding, and engage in STEM fun, robotics and technology focused games. $35

Friday Nite Rox 

Earth Treks, Timonium and Columbia 

Are your kids climbing the walls full of pent up energy? Earth Treks Timonium and Columbia locations off your children a chance to channel that energy every Friday night while you enjoy 2.5 hours of adults-only free time. Designed for children ages 6-12, the evening of adventure includes expert instruction, vertical games and lots of climbing. $19 for members; $29 for nonmembers

Parents’ Survival Night 

The Little Gym, Hunt Valley and Frederick 

Parents deserve recess, too. At The Little Gym, instructors guide children ages 3-12 through an active evening out that keeps them engaged and social through music, games and fun activities. The Frederick location structures each night around a seasonal theme and both centers offer discounts for siblings. That makes a super affordable evening out if you have multiple children. Dates, hours and cost vary by location, but prices start at $25.

Parents’ Night Out

Rebounders, Lutherville-Timonium

Aspiring gymnasts and active children alike will enjoy the chance to play in the gym and practice their skills on select Saturday nights at Rebounders. Activities for children ages 3 ½ to 14 include trampoline and moon bounce jumping, in-ground pits and pizza. $25 members; $35 for nonmembers; discounts available for siblings.

Parents’ Night Out

Y in Central Maryland, various locations

Multiple Y locations, including Waverly, Parkville, Perry Hall, Westminster and Pasadena, host Parents Night Out activities. The age range and hours vary per location (generally ages 3-12). But all sites offer the chance for your child to enjoy an evening filled with crafts, games, a movie and healthy snacks. Free to members.
