Baltimore-Area Turkey Trots Go Virtual in 2020

You may not be physically lacing up your sneakers with hundreds of people this Thanksgiving, but you and your family can still take part in the traditions of community turkey trots this year. While COVID-19 has forced many longstanding turkey trots to go virtual, several organizations and event organizers are offering virtual 5K, 10K and 1-mile fun runs and walks. The best part is that you, our readers, can take part in a virtual turkey trot no matter where you live. Learn about some of the turkey trots happening this month in the Baltimore area and beyond.
16th Annual Turkey Trot
Take part in this Laurel community tradition virtually. Use Laurel’s official 5K route or create your own course to complete the 5K, 10K or 1-mile run and walk anytime during the week of Thanksgiving, Nov. 23-39. All proceeds benefit Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services Inc. Registration is $20 per event.
2020 Revenge of the Bird Virtual 5K Turkey Trot
Hosted by The Virtual Run Challenge, this turkey trot gives turkey trot enthusiasts the chance to take part in this Thanksgiving tradition virtually. This year, participants can
compete for the Biggest Flock award, which will be given to the largest Revenge of the Bird Turkey Trot Team. Complete your team by Thanksgiving Day to be eligible for the Biggest Flock Patch. Race packets will start shipping Nov. 1. Participation tickets start at $35.
Jug Bay Post-Turkey Trail 5K
Take part in this fun 5K run on Nov. 28 along the scenic trails of the Jug Bay Glendening Nature Preserve, 5702 Plummer Lane in Lothian. Starts will be staggered in teams and small groups, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Limited to 30 participants. $15 per person, ages 12 and older. Registration is required; please bring a face mask.
PDGRS Virtual Turkey Trot
Walk, jog or run no matter where you are. Participate anytime between Nov. 15 and 21. All registered participants receive a 2020 PDG race bib. Select races will include a Turkey Trot T-shirt and finisher medal. Proceeds benefit PDG Rehabilitation Services. Events include the Gobble Wobble Activity of Your Choice, Mashed Potato Trot 3K and Turkey Trot 5K. Registration starts at $25.
The YMCA in Central Maryland – Virtual Turkey Trot Charity 5K
Complete a 3.1-mile walk or run the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 22-29) at any course or time you choose. Pick up Turkey Trot T-shirts at YMCA sites from Nov. 16-21. Participants are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items at the time of their T-shirt pickup.Turkey Trot 2020
Anyone from any neighborhood can participate in this virtual turkey trot to benefit Sheppard Pratt. The virtual race starts on Thursday, Nov. 26, at 12:01 a.m. and ends Sunday, Nov. 29, at 11:59 p.m. Registration from Oct. 16 to Nov. 21 is $25 for adults and $20 for children 17 and younger for the 5K run option. Registration from Nov. 22 to 25 is $30 for adults and $25 for children 17 and younger. Participation in the virtual 1-mile fun run and walk through Nov. 25 is $10 per person.
