We’re going a little Whole Family Approach for our Weekend Family Fun, July 30-Aug. 2. We’ve got fresh fruit, ghost walks, date night and more. Read on for our favorite picks for the weekend.
Here are five things to do this weekend.
Walk Off this Weather
Annapolis offers a few walking tours suitable for history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts alike. One is a ghost tour, one is a tour of the Navy Yard and a third takes pedestrians through the city’s historic streets. Kids can hear pirate tales, ghost stories and insider info on the state’s history. Tours are offered throughout the year, so you can wait out these oh-so-warm temperatures if you choose. We like Annapolis as a good change-of-scenery option for folks who are understandably concerned about journeying too far this year. visitannapolis.org
One Fruity Drive-Thru
Weber’s Farm is hosting a Drive-Thru Blackberry and Peach Festival on Saturday and Sunday, and we’re there for it. Festival hours run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Basically, it’s like McDonald’s, but just so much better. Follow the farm’s posted signs to place an order with a cashier, then continue through to the pickup and some delicious fruit. Crank up “Tutti Frutti” and make the kids laugh as you roll through the line. weberscidermillfarm.com
Here’s where you can pick more fruit.
Kerplunk LIVE!
Art fans know the drill: Every Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon, the Creative Alliance offers a free art-making workshop using materials found at home. Recycle and make art. Get the kids into a fun project, such as this week’s paper fruit fan. Hey, this could be a great accessory for the drive-thru fruit festival (see above), or you know, the whole month of August. No registration required. creativealliance.org
Two Date Night Options
Because we’re thinking of you. We recently tried out the patio at The Valley Inn, and it was both shady and garden-tastic for grownups who want to venture out. Feel like staying home this weekend? Check out the Baltimore Museum of Art’s Screening Room, where you can watch Baltimore-themed shorts after you sprinkle some Old Bay on that popcorn. The Columbia Festival of the Arts also is offering the Sundance Film Festival Shorts for a $10 one-week streaming fee. Check out the latest in cinema right here. Hey, that’s three options! But Date Night is that important.
July is winding down! Here’s our daily guide of activities for this month.
UNICEF Kid Power
UNICEF Kid Power offers [email protected] this summer. Teen and young adult counselors lead more than 75 instructional videos that show children everything from how to dribble a basketball around their legs to how make a friendship bracelet. The camp crew is suitably peppy and the videos are both summery and helpful, making this good any day fun for our kids. You can learn more about it right here.
