Weekend Family Fun: Dec. 19-23

Here’s our Weekend Family Fun roundup for Dec. 19-23. We have events for this weekend, plus a few holiday-themed activities early next week. Hanukkah starts on Sunday — may it be a joyful time for all who celebrate.


Moms Understand—Parents of Adult Children Support Group

Every third Thursday of the month, mothers of adult children with developmental disabilities come together for encouragement, support and discussion about challenges faced as their children grow older. The Arc Baltimore Community Resource Center, 12:30-2:30 p.m. Free.

Art Lab

In this workshop for kids ages 6-11, participants learn to collage. Kids under 8 must be accompanied by a parent. Baltimore County Public Library, Catonsville Branch, 6-7 p.m. Free.

Date Night: “Jesus Christ Superstar”

It’s the 50th anniversary for this rock concert of a Broadway show with powerful songs, contemporary choreography and an age-old story. Hippodrome, through Dec. 22. Tickets start at $80.


Art Camp Days

School is closed, and there’s crafty fun to be had. Enjoy a day filled with art projects and crafts along with games, stories and tons of fun. Registration required. Ages 5-10. Dec. 20-Jan.3, The Painting Workshop, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or 3 p.m. $40-$55.

$2 Family Fun Night at Port Discovery

All the fun, play and programs for only $2 per person. The third Friday of each month provides the opportunity for family fun at a fraction of the regular price Port Discovery Children’s Museum, 4-8 p.m. $2.

Baltimore Plays: A Gospel Christmas

Join Baltimore Plays, a series that showcases Baltimore’s independent artists, as it presents the region’s best gospel singers, performing songs of joy and faith. Creative Alliance, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. $10.


Sibshops–Sibling Support Group

Every third Saturday of the month, brothers and sisters of children with special needs are invited to an encouraging time of games, activities, discussion and support. Registration required. Ages 4-13. The Arc Baltimore Community Resource Center, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Free.

Winter Break: Pajama Party Palooza

No need to stay cooped up at home when school is closed. Every day through Jan. 2, break out your best jammies and enjoy crafts, snacks and other fun sleepover activities. Port Discovery Children’s Museum, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (Mon.-Sat.) and noon-5 p.m. (Sun.). $17.95 for ages 1 and up.

Holiday Cookies & Candies

Take your skills to a new level with lessons in baking cookies, candies and more. Be prepared to bring extras home for the holidays — your relatives are sure to be impressed. Schola Cooking School, noon-2 p.m. $60.


Happy Hanukkah from Baltimore’s Child!

Plants and People

The fourth Sunday of the month is all about science demonstrations. Enjoy plant-related experiential education that is great for all ages. Rawlings Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Free (donations welcome).

Christmas Story in Art

Take a tour of Renaissance and Baroque art that depicts the story of Christmas: the birth of Christ. The Walters Art Museum, 1-2 p.m. Free.

Skating at Pandora Ice Rink

Lace up your skates or rent some for the day and enjoy outdoor skating at the Inner Harbor. Open daily through Jan. 21 with varying hours. Pandora Ice Rink at the Inner Harbor, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. $10 adult, $9 child, $4 skate rental.

Christmas Village in Baltimore: Closing Day

Today is your last chance to experience the Christmas Village until next year. Shop for those last-minute gifts at the German Christmas Market, and get one last photo with Santa before he heads off to deliver gifts. Christmas Village in Baltimore, West Shore Park, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Free.

Weekend Family Fun: Dec. 19-23

Day-Off Camp

Spend your day off exploring nature. This one-day camp will be filled with science, fun and, of course, animals. Registration required. Ages 5-10. Other one-day camps available on Dec. 26, 27 and 30. Irvine Nature Center, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. $75 members, $85 nonmembers.


Holidays at The Senator

Attend a free screening of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” featuring live holiday music before the showing. GEDCO’s CARES Food Pantry will be accepting canned food donations.
The Senator Theatre, 9:45 a.m. Free.
