Run for that Turkey

Thanksgiving is a time for friends and family and for giving thanks for what we have. It’s also a time to give to others; and for many, that involves a morning of crisp fall air while running for a good cause. Yes, it’s turkey trot season! Whether you are a beginner looking for some fun or a running champ, here are seven races/runs in support of Baltimore-area organizations. Unless otherwise stated, all events take place on Thanksgiving, which this year is Thursday, Nov. 28.

Columbia turkey Chase 10k
Come run the 7th annual Columbia event sponsored by Rip It Events. Starting near Nottingham’s Tavern at 8850 Stanford Blvd., the course is fit for both beginners and experienced runners. Sunday, Nov. 24 at 8 a.m.; $55 for adults ($65 on race day) and $5 for kids, ages 4-10. columbiaturkeychase.com

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
Sponsored by Fleet Feet Sports, this 13th annual downtown Annapolis run includes a 5K and turkey costume contest. Children, strollers and dogs are welcome. Catonsville’s CHS XC Turkey Trot
This trot includes a 5K and one-mile fun run. Proceeds benefit Catonsville High School’s cross-country team and other local organizations. Catonsville High School, 8:30 a.m.; $20 register online, $40 register day of the run. catonsvilleturkeytrot.net

Turkey Trot Prediction Run 10K
Hosted by the Howard County Striders, this 10K race is a little different from the others. The goal is to finish as close to 11 a.m. as possible. Jeffers Hill Neighborhood Center (6030 Tamar Drive in Columbia), start when you want; $10 for member families, $12 for nonmember families. striders.net/turkey-trot

The Y in Central Maryland Turkey Trot 5K
Each year, the Y sponsors turkey trots around the area that benefit camps and other programs. All races are held on Thanksgiving Day and are open to runners, walkers, kids, strollers and dogs. All runs start at 8:30 a.m.; $40 for adults and $22 for kids, ages 7-17, $15 for dogs, $5 for kids up to age 6. Locations: Arnold, Bel Air, Baltimore, Ellicott City, Perry Hall, Towson and Westminster.

Gobble Cobble Turkey Trot
Held in downtown Baltimore, this race benefits the Pancreatic Cancer Research Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Alzheimer’s Association’s Greater Maryland Chapter. MAC Harbor East,

Jug Bay Post-Turkey  Trail 5K
Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary in Lothian (1361 Wrighton Road) for this post-Thanksgiving race. Saturday, Nov. 30 at the sanctuary, 9:30 a.m.; $25 for adults and $20 for kids, ages 18 and under. aacounty.org
