River Romp
Get ready to get wet! Bring a picnic and head down to the Middle Patuxent River for games and activities that will delight and soak the family. Registration required.
July 19, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and July 22, 12:30-2:30 p.m., Robinson Nature Center. $6 per person or $25 for a family of five.

Dance & B’more Presents: FazaFam Family Jam
Join CJay and Team FazaFam for an interactive dance party the whole family can enjoy together. With games and dancing in a variety of styles combined with original music, hearts will be pumping fast in no time.
Enoch Pratt Library, Cherry Hill Branch at 1 p.m. and Brooklyn Branch at 3 p.m. Free.

Baltimore Playwrights Festival Production Preview Night
Dozens of plays from local playwrights are submitted each year and the one that rises to the top is brought to life on the stage. Preview night is PWYC (pay what you can). The festival runs through July 29.

Take Me Fishing at Dundee Creek Marina
Naturalists teach kids the basics of fishing including tying knots, casting a line and reeling in the big catch. All materials provided. Ages 15 and under.

‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ Kids’ Night Out
Enjoy the hilarious movie, paint your own spaghetti bowl, and complete the evening with a pizza party. All the while, Mom and Dad are out doing boring grown-up stuff. Registration required. Ages 6 and up.

Sleepover with the Sharks
A shark lover’s dream! Go behind the scenes and see the aquarium in a way you will never forget. Registration required. Ages 8
and up.

Catch it again on the big screen. This film, based on the best-selling book by R.J. Palacio, beautifully portrays a message of acceptance and friendship. Part of the Family Film Series.

As usual, the streets will be flooded with performers, installations and arts-and-crafts vendors of all kinds while national names such as TLC and others take the stage each evening. It’s always one of the summer’s best weekends, so don’t miss it. And with free admission, why would you?

2018 Howard County Native American Pow Wow
Experience Native American singing and dancing, storytelling, craft demonstrations, food and a parade of nations (held at noon on Saturday).
July 21-22, Howard County Fairgrounds, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. (Saturday), 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (Sunday). Adults, $10; children ages 3-12, $7; 2 and under, free.

Family Nature Explorers – Incredible Insects
Enjoy a time of discovery as you learn about some of the many amazing bugs, beetles and butterflies that call Ladew home. All ages with adult.

Family Fun Day at Power Plant Live!
This month’s theme is superheroes. Enjoy games, pony rides, inflatables, face painting, vendors, crafts and, of course, food.

Shiny Happy Things Workshop with Bob Benson
Artist Bob Benson demonstrates how to make your own “flashies” (decorations made from mirrors, marbles, etc). Learn how to cut, create and assemble your own creations to display at home. Registration required.

Physical Comedy Workshop
How can you use your body to communicate humor to the audience? Develop your skills at this day-long workshop taught by Everyman Theatre teaching artists. Registration required. Grades 9 to 12.

Revolutionary War Tea for Kids
It’s tea time at Mount Clare. Hear what it was like to be a kid during the American Revolution while drinking tea and lemonade and making a historic craft. Registration required.

Parent and Me: Doughnuts
Who doesn’t love doughnuts? Bring your mom or dad and discover the fine art of making doughnuts from scratch. Registration required. Ages 8 to 17.

Campfire by the Gunpowder
Grab a blanket and enjoy free s’mores by Gunpowder Falls while a naturalist discusses the park’s natural and historical resources.

Sounds and Colors of Science
Science is full of sounds and colors and the Science Guys of Baltimore want you to experience them all in a whole new way. Through interactive demonstrations and experiments, they’ll help you discover science in your everyday world.
