Happy Birthday Margret Rey!

Creator of the beloved Curious George series, the German-born American writer and illustrator Margret Rey was born on May 16, 1906. The creation of the mischievous monkey for which Rey became famous began almost accidentally, when her husband Hans wrote a children’s book, “Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys,” containing an unforgettable character named…Curious George! Together, the Reys went on to write several books featuring the lovable monkey and his inquisitive mind. The Reys’ cherished book series won the hearts of all who turned the pages to divulge in the unpredictability of George’s next journey. Allowing children to escape into a world of wonder, George and his ventures created a fascinating realm of possibilities for his readers.

While there are too many memorable scenes to recount from Curious George’s endless antics, perhaps one verse from the books remains foremost in readers’ minds: “George promised to be good. But it’s easy for little monkeys to forget.”
