Local Children’s Author Spins Inspiring Tale about Fighting Fires

littleleonarotator_In Little Leona of Monsters and Fire, a bright young girl who enjoys slaying imaginary monsters in her home meets a real dragon one day—a fire. Readers will cheer for Leona as she rises to the challenge, employing her wits and living to fight another day. In addition to its inspirational message, the story delivers rhythmic text and whimsical illustrations, created by Robert Charles Moore.
Author of the book and former teacher Jae Sherwood lives in Annapolis and writes from her home. “I saw a need for a new kind of children’s book,” says author Sherwood. “As a parent, I enjoyed reading books to my children that were engaging. As a teacher, I wanted to read them books that were instructive.”

Her book, recommended for children 5 through 10, won a 2016 Mom’s Choice Award.  It’s also been endorsed by the Annapolis Fire Department, which plans to use it as part of their local elementary school fire prevention program.
