Choosing the Right Summer Camp for Your Child
It’s that time of year when families are
making summer plans, and for many parents those plans include finding a summer
camp program for their children.
It is important to find a camp that has a longstanding reputation for quality
programs, experienced staff, safety, and an excellent camper-to-counselor
ratio. In addition, a desirable program offers before- and after-care,
transportation, and meals.
Over 75 Years of Quality
McDonogh Summer Programs meets all of these
criteria. For over 75 years, McDonogh School has been offering quality summer
camps for children ages 4-16. The program currently boasts a 5-to-1
camper-to-counselor ratio, which is significantly better than most camps. And
many of the counselors are certified school teachers.
Children and their parents can select from 52 different day camps, sports
clinics and academic programs. “Parents love the fact that we have camps for
such a variety of interests all in the same place. It saves them from driving
their kids to different locations for activities,” said Rachel Goldfine-Sifri,
associate director of McDonogh Summer Programs.
Transportation and Lunch
In fact, parents don’t need to carpool at
all. With transportation provided by McDonogh’s well-maintained bus fleet,
campers come from all over Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Howard County, and
Carroll County. And they don’t have to carry lunch boxes because campers
receive a nutritious lunch at no extra charge.
The programs are conducted on McDonogh School’s impressive 800-acre suburban
Owings Mills campus, with amazing facilities that include stables, indoor and
outdoor riding rings, fishing ponds, fully equipped playgrounds, 20 tennis
courts, a brand new Olympic-size swimming pool, extensive athletic fields, and
a 54,000-square-foot field house with seven basketball courts, two indoor
batting cages, a wellness center, and a wrestling room.
Campers also benefit from McDonogh’s fine arts center with a 588-seat modern
theatre, and the school’s multiple computer labs and art rooms.
Counselors Who Care
The caring and experienced staff at
McDonogh Summer Programs is committed to providing a quality experience in a
safe environment. “We have registered nurses, an EMT, and a certified athletic
trainer on hand at all times,” said Bob Rush, director of McDonogh Summer
Programs. The campus also has around-the-clock security.
McDonogh Summer Programs has such an excellent reputation that many options,
including before- and after-care often sell out, so it is wise to register
early.
